Exclamation Transfer case Yoke

Trying to take the yoke off a 1356 manual, its on the bench and cant get the yoke to stop spinning while trying to remove the nut. the nut isnt helping either, i think it is welded on with rust. any ideas would be helpful. thanks

You do not say which yoke, but I would think you could put it in 4WD and lock down one of the other yokes. I do not know what you have at hand, but I'd try to use a C-clamp or two and long hardwood 2x4.

If your air gun has the 'beans' that nut should come right off, even if it is on the bench. You are using an impact right? That thing will be very difficult to remove while it is sitting on a bench moving around, and trying to use the 'big ratchet, and **** pipe method', you are gonna hurt yourself, or drop the case, and crack it that way.

My appologies for not noticing your T/C was an electric. I have had to do without a big impact wrench for many decades and this sort of job can be done safely if you have the T/C secured on a stable bench (or on the floor). Clamp some rigid extension on the yoke, keeping access free for your socket. While you can put a piece of pipe on a ratchet, I prefer a long "breaker bar" (flex handle) to get adequate leverage. Work with one hand on the wrench and the other on the extension clamped to the yoke. Working the two against each other reduces the forces trying to move the T/C and focuses your energy on the nut.

A little rust-breaking solvent will help. I use Kroil, but everyone has their own favorite. Also a 6-point socket is less likely to slip.

That is what I get for reading your signature! I guess you will be happy that you can update it when you get the manual T/C installed. Having all the right tools is nice, but with a little care & common sense, there is a lot you can do without them if you are willing to take your time. Good luck!
