05E15- Engine Control Recalibration

We have a 70,000 mile 6.0 in our 2004 E450 that has never caused a moments trouble, it has not been to the Ford store since May of 2005 for the transmission recall. In January of 2006 Ford started sending us letters requesting us to go in and get emission recall 05E15 performed. To date we havn't done it, should I continue to avoid a trip to the service department?

Depends on your state. Even though most states don't smog check diesels, some won't renew the registration or transfer title unless the emission update has been performed.

Yea, Ford says its a "voluntary recall" but if you don't have it performed the letters indicate they could do that along with reducing your emission systems warranty. The inability to renew the registration is of little concern to us as it has a nonexpiring tax exempt registration because its owned by a public school district..
