Ok So I bought my 05 SD new and have never used the pto I have read thru the owners manual and the is no section on how to use it. Any help would be much appreciated.
First ,you need the adapter to the tranny it bolts on the driver side under a plate.
Then you need to determine what you want to drive/ a hyd pump ,generator etc..
Set the switches on the dash for Idle controller
Should be a tin cover on the tranny, roughtly rectangular or square, maybe 6" on a side.
The PTO box would bolt to that area of the tranny, and inside the tranny is a gear specifically to mate to the PTO box.
The box would have a shaft sticking out the back, to put a u-joint on, to drive a driveshaft, that would probably be extended out to underneath the bed. From there, a pulley or sprocket would drive a chain or belt that passes through the bed up to whatever you want to run.
Other people have asked about generators or compressors, and for the money, a standalone model is cheaper than hooking up to the PTO.
But the PTO has it's advantages - LOTS of power - your truck's engine is driving whatever you connect to it. No other engines to fill with fuel or oil. etc.
Otherwise, the PTO is kinda like teats on a bull, if you know what I mean
Yep I know what you mean. I will look at it today I dont think I have that box thing thou I think I just have the PTO option. Thanks for all your help.
