Something Wrong?? Or a rev limiter?
Wife came home the other day from a two hour trip and said 2005 Expy was hesitating when accelerating from stop. I took it out for a spin and did not notice anything so I figured it could be bad gas. Put the vehicle in park in driveway and revved it up, at 2700 rpm it would surge and could go no higher. Put it in neutral and the same thing. Her vehicle idles kind of rough, like the vehicle bouncing. When I put in neutral or park it is smooth as day.
One of my customers who is a ford tech at local dealership said it was normal the idling. He said it was due to being under torque when in gear.
Anyone with this experience or advise?? Vehicle has 20k miles

I had a similar issue with my 00 expy not revving past 3500. It was a clogged fuel filter. I don't know what could be causing a bouncing idle while in gear. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that. Check that fuel filter and let us know.

Replaced the fuel filter friday and still does the same. S/W service person at dealership and supposedly there is a rev limiter. The idling, when I put in neutral or park it idles smooth and rpms go up a few hundred. When it is in gear rpms drop a little and the idle bouncing is there. Kind of supports fords theory of the vehicle has torque due to being in gear.

You have a neutral rev limiter, which is what you are experiencing and then you have another "in gear" rev limiter that engages when the PCM senses any driveshaft rotattion. Neutral revving a motor with no load is extremely hard on it.
