Idle Air Control Code fault in ECM
My son's 93 Ranger w/4.0L has the IAC code fault. The truck will sometimes run rough. It is an intermittent problem. I had the neighbor hook up the fault code reader. It spit out the IAC code. My neighbor's buddy said that sometimes the MAF sensor will sometimes cause that fault and the resultant rough running. He said to remove the two tamperproof torx screws and spray some intake cleaner on the MAF sensor wires. Has anyone run into this problem or would I be better off replacing the IAC valve? The MAF sensor is only about a year old. Thanks in advance for your input.

Couldn' hurt to clean the MAF sensor. Sounds like it's a bit soon though. If you've got one of those fancy air filters that you have to oil, then that might contaminate it over time. But your IAC valve probably just needs cleaning. Lots of threads on that. Kleen it like the MAF, sort of. If you find it helps, but the problem re-occurs, change it out. Some other fellas might chime in with other suggestions, cause sometimes a DTC for one sensor/system can be triggered by an unrelated fault/problem. ie- Low vaccum code for MAP sensor can be caused by vaccum lead.
