I am assuming you are supposed to just tap it in the hole in front of where the thermostat goes for the bypass tube. Is there a need for a sealant here and if so what kind.

They say tap the nipple in carefully with a block of wood. I would smear a little rtv on it for extra insurance. Most of it will come off when you install it, but if there are any voids, it may fill them.
