Here's the panel I have to remove in my 86 F-150 so I can lower steering post:
I took two screws off the front, and when it wouldn't come off, I stuck my head up under dash and this is what I saw, one on each side. The support on the post (left and top in this picture) hides a second pin (I've taken that support off now), so there are actually two of these fasteners on each side:
Here's a closeup of one of the fasteners on the left side. Don't know what to make of this or how to get it out:
Is this some kind of pin that I have to punch out? Or ????????? HEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The part you are looking at is the rubber seal that goes around the coloum. What you need to look at are two tabs on the top, one on each side, you can see them below the woodgrain trim. lift up to release, then pull it out, also there might be some screws along the bottom too.

Thanks! Do I access those tabs from the front behind the wood grain panel or from the back where I took these pictures?

Reason: Forgot to ask something
They are on the front. You might be able to see them between the wood trim and the bottom panel. If you take off the trim around the gauges you can see them for sure.

And after the tree gauges there should be a mounting bracket the I think takes a 5/8 socket for that year. Maybe a 1/2 but I doubt it. Possibly 7/16 but you can figure it out im sure.
