You measure fuel pressure with either a mechincal gauge hooked into the rear of the fuel bowl(much cheaper but cant go in cab), or an electrical sender go to an electrical gauge inside the cab(what i have). Someone should have pictures on how to do this somewhere.
Thanks for the pics and the directions for this mod. So what does this improve other than the pressure? smoother running? more power? fuel economy? noisier/quieter? On my truck when you get into it and let off, the RPM's bounce a little and eventually will even out but it's anoying. Maybe this fixes that? Or you guys have a fix for the bounce in RPM's. 2003 (Rare 7.3L) 4x4 EXT CAB LB Lariat w/Banks Ottomind, Trans Command, 4" Down Pipe and Exhaust, Gauges. Stock everything else! or a filed down wall plate screw. dieselinnovations.com has a great kit with shims.
That was my idea. You cut the head of the screw off ( you know, power outlet, light whatever.) The bevelled (spelling) end will screw into the spring. You can then adjust the screw in or out for the desired setting. I posted that last year, I hope I get the credit, but if not then it will be the only thing im barely remembered for. Boo hoo on me.
You will forever be remembered for the "entertainment" you provided (at your own expense) for the rest of us as we followed your tribulations while on-the-road. You should also get SOME credit for launching Alan's 7point3 help network.

Sorry for the delayed reply, just got back from camping. The wall plate screw mod idea was definately kennedyford's brain-child !!
Now dont make me blush blue from the brain swell. Now do I want to be known as the "screw" mod? Really I hope just to further everyone on this simple dealerbobber. Its cheap and I dont care. Its just neat to see I finally contributed something minor compared to all of the rest of you guys. Troy

You contribute a whole lot more than you realize, I guarentee 99% of us envy and hope like hell to see 500K miles! You da man!
MAN!! i did the fuel shim today. i bet i just about wore the threads out, taking the housing off and on so many times trying to file and grind the head of a "light plate screw"to get the 74 psi.
i know i read all these posts and studied all the pics and instructions. i seen where all the trucks may work different , but i can tell u this, if u measure with a feeler gauge or something that measures thousanths. mine ended up measuring from the top of the spring to the top of the filed screw head 26 thousandths.. i ended up filing it all the way down until the flat head screw driver slot was completely gone...
before i startde i had 61 psi, now i have 74 psi
i really cant tell any difference in idle or driving
i hope my two cents help
"when your finished cummin, i'll still be strokin" " and if im still strokin, its just a matter of time, i'll be cummin"
You should have cut the screw driver slot head off. The beveled edge then can screw into the spring, stiffen the spring and leave a 1/4 inch exposed making the whole measurement including the spring 1/4 inch longer. What was you final measurement for 74 psi?
Kennedyford, I'm getting ready to do this/your mod, but I think I'm dumb. Maybe just brain numb, but do cut off some of the treads or do I cut off the whole screw head and just use the threads... Thanks
Cut off what you see when you look at the wall plate. Your just left with the body of the screw. Make sure it has the beveled end. Once you get the bev end screwed into the spring, just put it in enouph to secure it. You dont have to use the whole screw body, you can trim it even more. You want a guage so you dont over do it. I think long ago I posted pics, Ill see if I can repost them later on Sunday still moving and have to go to work.
