alternator question
Does anyone know the stock ampreage of a 1990 Bronco w/ 5.8L V8's alternator? I think it's about time I changed mine since when I have lights, air and radio on the battery seems to loose all its charge at idle and if I don't give it some gas it dies. Please help.

Oldfordtech is correct, i thinks. The older ford alternators only pump out around 60 amps...pretty weak. I decided to upgrade and do a G3 alternator swap. These are stock alternators for 95 mustang GT's and put out around 130 amps out of the box. Not bad huh? I can't say for sure if the swap will work with a 90. Mine is an 89 and it fits like a glove (after some very minimal shaving of the lower bracket...easy with a rotary tool and disk). Check out this link for a step-by-step for both the instalation and the wiring for the new alternator (it's not my site, just another enthusiasts page). I'm glad I did the swap. WELL worth the price of around $140 from AutoZone. Goos luck.
