Icelander...

Icelander,
Had I known that you were so thin-skinned about the truth of the matter, I would not have voiced my opinion about my truck or how I view Ford. I'm flattered that my opinion means so much to you. Thanks.
I bought a Ford because I wanted to buy an American made truck, having previously owned toyotas. The mechanical performance of my Ford (up against toyota, anyway) has been completely unacceptable. I totalled my Toyota at 227,000 miles and it was running strong. My Bronco needed a new motor at 77,000 miles (or that's just when the job got done). This is why Ford continues to lose market share to Toyota. It's all about quality.

The bottom line is this though: Ford doesn't engineer their vehicles for performance well above 75,000 miles. They can, but they don't. They make just as much money selling a less expensive vehicle that won't last as long, because most people will replace it after a couple of years anyway.
My in-laws have a taurus, for example. It doesn't have the little button that the door pushes when it closes that turns the dome light off. Instead, Ford decided to use some sort of sensor to replace the simple button. Needless to say, the dome light eventually just stayed on because this sensor broke. It's an okay idea, I guess, to go and complicate simple issues that have already been solved, but when you re-invent the wheel and come out with a square it's just a pain in the ***.
Ever noticed how "easy" it is to drop the oil pan in these Broncos? Not! Why would you have to pull the motor to drop the oilpan (which is probably rusting from the inside out)?

This site has been a tremendous help for me, especially because I could find others with the same problems and i could pinpoint the solution to mine more easily sometimes. It's the extent of it all that's frustrating.

Money's always tight, and it's not that people are holding on to their money either. New vehicles are selling like crazy right now. No, the truth is that people are looking for something more reliable than an old Ford Bronco, and what they're offering for them is what they're worth- not much!!! It's fun to make upgrades and fix your vehicle when it's not necessary, but it royally sucks when you HAVE to. Just look at all the questions people are asking at this site, "dude"!!!

Man, what a birdbrain!!

First off, your whole post is petty.

That said, I certainly can't disagree that Toyota's quality is high (at least their running gear), and Ford's can be questionable at times. But this isn't a Toy VS Ford forum. This is a Ford Bronco forum.

The xmembers are like they are because Ford needed something to anchor the pivots for the TTB. No question that this makes oil pan replacement difficult, and it IS a dumb design, but I don't think anyone's questioning that.

TTB is an embarassment, but so is Toy's IFS from '86 up. Given a choice I'd take TTB - more wheel travel and much, much stronger.

I replaced rotors on a buddy's '86 4Runner and it was interesting to say the least. The brilliant Toy engineers ran hardline all the way to the caliper, so when you move the caliper you're tweaking the hard line. It was a major PITA to compress all 4 pistons in the caliper, and my buddy reported the brakes sucked (you'd think 4 piston calipers might perform well). But I did like the fact that the rotors BOLT to the wb hub rather than being held on by pressed-in wheel studs.

My point: all manufacturers do dumb things!

Honney is right. All manufacturers to dumb things. But you can't say Ford is "bad" just because you have had a few problems. I've had very few problems with my Bronco, and my dad has a Tempo with 300,000 plus miles on it (and he has never done a major repair...just the standard maintenance). When it comes down to me, it is an easy choice to make: Ford, Chevy or Dodge, I will always buy American!!!

first of all, your opinion means crap to me. i dont care what you think about ford, chevy, dodge, toyota, world politics ect....you are free to comment about anything you like. what i care about is you saying "fords are garbage" in a Ford forum. as a person with the same rights that you have to come in here and say that, i felt that i should reply and give my opinion of you and your opinion and tell the guy why i thought his bronco wasnt selling.

second. if ford only engineers their vehicles to run well until 77,000 miles, explain why my bronco has 130,000 and the only thing ive had to do to it since i bought it was replace the STOCK starter and the only reason i had to do that was because i broke the mounting tab for the relay cable when puting a new one on. it was rusty and it broke......it happens, espesialy in NE Ohio where things rust. explain why our '90 F-350 at work has GET THIS, 324,672 miles on it and we JUST now had to replace the stock brake lines. the engine has never been out of it and it has never needed anything but basic maint. we have two GMC topkicks that both needed an engine after 150,00. we also have a '92 GMC 3500HD that after about 130,000 blew a valve and had no ***** with a load on it. i could go on either way but im hopeful you get my point. one more thing.........if toyotas are soooooo reliable and tough...howcome you dont see many used as a work truck, heavy duty or otherwise, as much as you see Fords? i dont ever think ive seen a toyota on a farm.

how well do you or family members maintain your Fords?

buy yourself another toyota and then go there to complain about your Ford........i promise you nobody in here wants to hear about it.

Bird brain!
