I have a 15 pass E-350 with a V10 and limited slip Dana-60 Rear with 3:73 gears. Problem is when I accelerate from a complete stop at an incline while turning sharply to the right I hear some light clacking noise from somewhere in the rear. It does not make the noise when turning to the left?
I had this same complaint about a Suburban I used to have (GM 14 bolt rear). someone has told me that I need to change the rear diff oil and add the required friction additive. I have also been told that it is probably a lot more severe for a repair than that? Any Advice?
I agree, fluid change first with the right oil and modifier and see if it goes away. That will give you the chance to see if there is any metal in the case. If the clutches are worn they usually do not make any noise, but, they are easy to change.
I have never done a Dana 60, but, you can usually add an extra disc to stiffen up the action.
You guys were right on! talked to a rear diff expert today and he told me the same thing. Remove and replace the gear oil and additive. I think I am going to go with that Royal Purple stuff. someone said that you don't have to add the additive if you use it.
