'08 tailgate step

For those of you who like the integral tailgate step on the '08 SD's, here's a cheaper alternative to a new tailgate-

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Picku...86174929QQrdZ1

If you follow the link to the sellers home page, you can get it $10.00 cheaper, and watch a video of it in action.

It just looks cheap. My neighbor had something that looked similar and it bent within a few weeks. I can't imagine he weighs more then 215 either. The 08' step is nice just beacuse you can't see it. Although, I can see it getting broken rather easily. Somebody leaves it down and tries to hookup a trailer and the coupler smashes it. Or on the tailgate half of the bedliner, it is raised so it allows the pole to fold down on top of the gate. I guess that's OK, but what about when you're hauling gravel or munch in the back of your truck and it all gets stuck back there in the bed liner?? Not a big deal, just annoying.

I'd be afraid of the extra leverage. I can see creases in tailgates on the rise from when the cables snap. Maybe I'm just being paranoid though...

Those cables are rated for pretty high weights, I would think the steps would fail first.

I just remember watching my buddy snap one. Granted it was a few years old...

Yeah, they do break every now and then, usually becuase the coating gets worn/damaged and the cable inside rusts. I broke both of them on my old Bronco, but they were rusted really bad. If they are in good shape I think they are rated for something like 1000lbs a piece. I know on my new truck I could drive my 4 wheeler up a ramp into the bed and never thought twice about it. Between me, the 4 wheeler, and the toolbox and tools that were on the tailgate it had to be around 700lbs. I doubt the steps could handle that.
