i was under my truck yesterday installing another starter and i noticed the right (pass) side axle tube is leaking?? i know the seal is inside the axle tube, but to get to the seal do i have to pull the carrier out?? if i do this might be a good time to install lockers and 4.10's or 4.30's!
I just finished installing an outboard seal on mine. I had to hone out the outer end of the axle tube a bit with a ball hone, but I finally got it to fit. I found the number somewhere on this forum, thanks to whoever posted it.
It is a 16146 seal, The Carquest number is 4762N, and it is 1.618 x 2.841 x .500
I was able to install the factory dust seal on the outer end of the axle shaft as normal. Time will tell how it works. I figure, it will cut my leak down to a minor annoyance at worst.
I put a new dust seal on the axle shaft as normal. The dust seal rides on the face of the axle tube, so it does not interfere with the new seal I installed inside of the axle tube. I have some pics, pm me if you want them.
