I am trying to install a Stuart Warner tachomter on my 1984 F-250 Diesel. It recieves a signal from the pulses coming from the alternator. The man from Stuart Warner told me to hook up the sender to the "R" Terminal on the back of the alternator. I also read in the instructions that is says it will either work on the "R", "W", or "AC" terminals. I do not have any of these terminals on the alternator. The man said that if there is not one that i have to get on installed. I was wondering if any body has installed a tach on their 6.9 with an alternator pickup if you could give me some info on how it was setup.
Thanks for the info. Does the voltage regulator sit right next to the battery on the passanger side? I think i know where it is but your saying it will have the "R" terminal to pick up a feed from the alternator?
I will be putting a tach in my 86 E350. Just the thread I need. Question, where is a good place to install/mount it? Dash? Could any tach work? Or does it need to be specifically for a diesel. I have one of those big Sun tachs for a column mount & a small one if I'd cut a hole for the dash.

Should be near there about the size of a deck of cards.
The one that hooks up to the alternator is a special tach made to hook up there.
A gasser tach will not work, no ignition to hook it up to on a diesel.
The stock tach in either a gasoline or diesel were not made to hook to the alternator.
