Headlamp Lens

Has anyone replaced their headlamp lens with the aftermarket OEM style lens? If so are they as thick a plastic as the factory ones? I replaced my lens 3 years ago with the Clear lens the Diamond type and one got a crack in it and is oxidizing already. The oxidation seems to go real deep as it's not cleaning up like my factory ones did. These clear lens seemed thinner right from the start but I thought I'd give them a try. I'm thinking about going back to the factory lens but if the aftermarket OEM are as heavy a plastic I'd go that route. I myself prefer the vision of the factory lens I find I like the light pattern better. Old age...happens to us.
My truck is a 97 F350 but uses the same lens as the 96's and older (to a point).
Thank you
Alan

Well, Ive never replaced mine but I did have good luck removing the oxidation. I wet sanded the lens down and then used a air die grinder with a polishing wheel to polish it back up. Turned out very nice.

I agree that the clear diamond ones are pretty much crap. Their beam pattern sucks and they discolor too quickly. I just replaced my old worn out factory head lights with some oem style aftermarket replacements. I think the beam pattern may have been slightly better with the OEM Ford ones, but for the price, it really doesn't bother me. I got mine from JCWhitney for 99 bucks with free shipping. They are TYC which I have been told by several people is one of the better aftermarket replacement light companies. Apparently they actually make oem light assemblies for some auto makers. I have had their tail lights for about 4 or more years and they still look new. I had some cheapo tail lights for about a year and they looked like trash, so thats where they ended up. You can get a new pair on ebay for about 50 bucks, but I don't know who makes them. The oem Ford ones are over 100 dollars each. I say order some TYC ones from JCW. They are called Genera I think.

I bought and installed the lights from here on my 92.....shipping was only $7.50......lights were $24 apiece.

Comparing them to the originals when I took them out they seemed very much the same...weight, thickness of the plastic.."etc"......
Haven't had them in long enough to give you any idea of how they are holding up yet.
Good Luck

I went and put the original oem lamps back in. I had cleaned them up just prior to replacing them just over 3 years ago. They had cleaned up real good. One of them got in the way of a stone so it has a small crack. It doesn't show bad but I know it's there. And just as I remembered it I like the pattern better it doesn't shine as far ahead as the Diamonds did but I can see things closer around me better. I'm probably going to replace these with some new lens and maybe look into some driving lights that will shine a beam with a little more distance. Something that will fit and look good in the bumper slots.
So on that line anyone have suggestions on good driving lights that fit in our stock bumper, look and fit nicely and put off a distant beam?
