Transmission Question
I have the opportunity to get a great deal on a 93 Explorer XLT 4x2 that has trans issues. I also have an A4ld from a 91 Ranger 4x4 that needs rebuilt. Is this the same transmission as the 4x2 A4ld, except for the tailshaft, can I get it rebuilt and swap out tailshafts? Thanks in advance for your help.

What engine is in your '91 Ranger? The 2.9/4.0 transmissions have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, but a 4 cylinder or a 3.0 have a different bolt pattern.
Changing from 4x2 to 4x4 does require changing the output shaft, which requires dissassembly of the transmission. If you are having it rebuilt anyway, then it shouldn't take too much more to convert.
