Has anyone here used one of these before? Is it close to the same thing that a locker is? I want both of my tires to burn when I step on it in my 89 ford, and looking for a way to keep the stock gears.
Im thinking about just trying to find a limited slip rear end with highway gears to what I have, I did some research and it seems like the mini spool is hard on the rear end.
You do NOT want a mini spool. These are popular with the oval track crowd (yes I have installed a couple) where you use different sized tires on each side of the car to make it turn, but it will be horrible anywhere else! This locks the two axles together with no give, thus on each turn one wheel has to "slip" (spin) in order for it to complete the turn. These make the car want to drive straight even when turning. Bad bad bad idea for the street!
Yep, you definitely don't want a minispool or a spool. A detroit locker is the most bulletproof, but replaces the carrier so you need the gears set up again. A powertrax lockright is probably close to what you need.
