I have a small oil leak on my '02 PSD. I first saw some around the starter about a year ago and didn't think anything of it. After all it is a Ford diesel.
Monday morning however I noticed a few drips on the garage floor. I checked and it is in the same place on the engine looks like between the engine and tranny. As the warranty ran out in January I could kick myself for not taking it in sooner. Anyway I am sure it will be thousands of dollars to fix, is there any fudge factor on the warranty or is it strictly 5 years. Will crying help?=;-)
I don't know where the leak is but may have to live with it awhile.
Most common places for oil leaks are the turbo pedistal o-rings or the HPOP o-rings. Get a mirror and start looking around the base of the turbo to see if that's the culprit. It's an easy fix, just a bit time consuming if you've never removed the turbo before. As for the HPOP, look at the two fittings on the pump (driver's side of the pump), and also the plug in the rear of the pump. Those are the common leak spots on the HPOP.
Well the good news is it is still under warranty. I took it to the local dealer and they looked it over most of the day. They finally said they couldn't determine from where the oil was coming. They put the dye in the oil and I am to drive it for a week and return. They will black light it and hopefully solve the problem.
