My truck engine was hiccuping and then acting like nothing was wrong. From this forum I determined that the CPS was going bad. I replaced it today and now the truck wont even start. I bought the part from Autozone (wrong part or defective maybe?) for $150 and it looked the same as the one I removed. What do I do now?
Should I reinstall the old part that I kinda mangled with the channel locks to get it out, or return the new part and try another? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks for the help, this is a great forum
It sounded like the plug "clicked" in OK, I even pulled and wiggled on it after the motor wouldnt start. Guess I'll try pulling the plug and reattaching, then returning the part if it wont work right. I suppose thats what I get for going to the cheapo auto parts store. Should have went to Napa
What about disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. Is that supposed to be part of the procedure to reset the computer?

Resetting the PCM...should not be a necessary procedure for the NEW CPS to function. However, couldn't hurt.
OK, I got my money back from Autozone and went to the Ford dealer and bought a new CPS for $190. Put it in and the truck fired right up. The after driving for 1/2 hour on the freeway the engine hiccuped and the SES light came on and stayed on. I figured at least I could get the code read now. Then after stopping and restarting, the SES light was gone. Can a code be read without the service engine soon light being on?
look real carfully at the cps you got i have actually opened the box from auto zone & found the sensor still in its fomoco bag complete with part number, in other words dont be suprised if there all made by the same vendor & sold to a variety of retailers ford included! check youre harness and plugs, bad sensors act bad all the time!
But if you are going to purchase a code reader, I recommend the Equus 3130. The MSRP is $299, but I was able to find it on Amazon for almost half that price. Here is a link...if you would like to research...
