I have an 04 XLT Scab 5.4 4x4 w/ tow package and HD payload package. I bought this truck new and it has worked ever since I signed the papers. I always have at least 1200 lbs in the bed, and pull a camper just shy of 1000 miles from home. I'm not easy on the right foot either. I've had the new model blues with the cam phaser issue and also the diff overhauled at 74,000 miles because of some whining. The truck now has 93,000 miles on it. I have put a set of tires on at 72,000 and brakes at 60,000. Other than that, oil changes and a whole lotta gas. I know that there are other trucks out there with more HP, better acceleration, 5 and 6 speed autos. If they last as long as the Fords do, great, but on the other hand if they don't think of how expensive those new parts will be and how many times it will be back to the dealer for the same problem due to the mechanics not mastering how to fix them. Although it is time for Ford to up power output, keep in mind what consequences come with the first couple of years. I intend on keeping this truck for at least 200,000 miles since I'm half there now. I have driven new trucks recently and still my truck suprises me, It still rides better, in my opinion, than the new models even with all the miles. I still have no sqeeks, rattles, vibrations, etc. I pulled a Chevy 2500 out of the muddy field and up a hill and across a ditch . As I went through the ditch at an angle, I watched the bed on my truck. I was amazed as the bed stayed nearly level with the cab but the axles were all uneven. Says a lot about the frames on these trucks. So to sum it all up, I washed it yesterday and realized out of all the other trucks out there, I picked the best.
My 21 year old brother has a 95 F150 Lightning 351 HO with 220,000 HARD miles, Still runs 15.7's in the quarter, bone stock. The same as when new. The most major thing replaced was the water pump and radius arm bushings. Not bad out of an older model truck. Everyone I know that runs their trucks harder than the average person seems to have the best luck and the most miles are Fords. My first truck was a 73 F100 w/ a 360 FE engine. The original engine lasted over 290,000 miles, which wasn't maintained right. Still had the original 3 speed manual and the 9 inch rear. I know because the truck was bought new in 73 by my great-grandfather. No wonder they are the best selling truck for the past 30 years. People buy them, use them, sell them, and buy another one.
2 trucks ago i had a 88 F-150...i purchased the truck from the back of a lot and it had 85K on it at that point....still ran good and was pretty good looking.....had 35" tires...lift....it was a extended cab short bed with the 5.0....i drove the crap out of that truck and sold with 200,000 miles....at 190,000 i replaced the motor because i blew it up....had it stuck in snow and just put it to the floor and held it there....oil pressure dropped from pump and KA-BANG....game over....
so, i put a motor in it...nothing special at all...bone stock and it had a ton of miles on it....fired right up....
now the good part...
i seen the truck over last weekend...talked to the guy that has it now...the truck shows 320,000 miles....origional trans, rears exc....motor is the one i put in because i marked the oil pan and i checked it.....
Im glad to hear this. I bought an 04 Lariat about a month and a half ago and have been lurking on this site learning all i can about my truck and the Fords. Ive never had a Ford before, but I love my new truck. I keep seeing all types of negatives on the trucks saying what a bunch of POS they are. Mine only has 13,000 miles and i wouldnt expect any problems, but its great to see some good feedback. Makes me feel like maybe i made a good choice with the Ford instead of the usual bow-tie. Hi my name is Scott and yes im a closet Ford fan.
Two weeks ago I bought a 04 supercrew 4X4 with 21,000 miles. So far the truck is smooth and quite. I have to take it for service Thursday due to a clunking in the rear end when I hit the gas from a dead stop. So we will see what that is. I have owned 2 rangers, 2 explorers, and 2 taursus and they all have been trouble free.
I'm having a little tranny trouble right now with my o5 lariat but I still wouldnt trade for another brand. I have had alot of fords never any real major problems. I have had 2-f250's, 3-f150's, 3 mustangs, 2 explorers, and 1 ranger in my lifetime and love em all.
