Well yours will beat mine I bet Im going for budget! So far all I have planned is just a rebuild kit, cam and doing some headwork. After that it depends on if I can find headers and an intake for cheap.
This is just a stock 84 302 with 87 Mustang EFI, 74 351W heads and a custom cam. There is nothing special about my engine. Everything is factory parts except the cam. I'd love to stroke it out to a 331 and then call it a 5.4L

I don't like the 351W's EFI intake as much as the Mustang setup. The Mustang has a better flowing intake, sequential injection, more versatile (can work on both sides) and there are a lot more goodies for the mustang setup. I also can make a more efficient engine out of the 302 than the 351W. I also got a good deal on my 302.
I was jsut gonna say that, I thought the intake was the same too. Do you have o do anything special to your heads when you put them on at all? What kind of cam are you going to be putting in?
The 351W intakes are 2 1/2" wider than the 302. The 302/351W truck intakes are similar but are totally different than the Mustang/car style.
Pretty much the only things that interchange between the 351W and 302 are:
heads
timing chain
transmission
Flywheel
water pump
timing cover
timing gears
camshaft
belt driven accessories
To use the heads I just have to use special head bolts since the 302 uses 7/16" and the 351W uses 1/2".My cam is a custom grind for great torque and good horsepower. I don't give away trade secrets just like how they get the caramel in the Caramilk bars!
Lol its all goods I should post a link for you showing you the cam I want to get, Im not sure if I need to do anything special if I get it either though. Like does a guy have to do something different with the heads if you get a cam?
I'd probably just get new stock replacement springs. The original ones probably are a little soft. The stockers are good for .500 lift and till like 5500 rpm before they float. Post a link and I'll run it up on Desktop Dyno for you.
Well I can tell you right now that will only work with a carb. That is like a race cam.
Here you go: 302, stock heads, 600 cfm 4 barrel, headers with mufflers
307 hp at 6000 rpm
297 ft-lbs at 5000 rpm.
I can tell you that your engine will be a dog under 3000 rpm and will barely move your truck around. This cam will require aftermarket high lift springs and valve guide machining to clear that lift.

Pretty decent numbers considering stock torque on a 292 is 274ft-lbs at 2600
or considering the 360 was rated 327 at 2600rpm. 352ft-lbs is a decent torque number for a SBF.
