I got a exploded veiw from the parts Dept at my local Ford Dealer when I has a part to break on the inside. The down side is if you take the springs out of the tilt wheel it will take 2 of you to put them back in.Ask me how I know. I'll see if I can find my copy and scan it on to the computer and put it in my gallery. Unless someone else already has a copy.
Is there a rebuild kit for the column? The boot inside the engine compartment close to the firewall is ripped and there seems to be a bit of play in the steering wheel. I'm looking forward to that exploded view.
A common problem with these trucks, especially 4wd, is people use the steering wheel to pull themselves into the cab. This eventually loosens the bolts or cracks a potmetal piece inside the column. I have never replaced it myself, but if it's inside the column, it can't be fun.
It's not I had to replace a pot metal peice that looked like a 1/2 moon on one end and had a stem on it which hooks up to the the key switch. It is a pita.

I bet thats the problem right there, and I agree a pita.

That piece I have replaced before, but that's only for the keyswitch. I believe there is a larger piece that holds the column that can crack.

Yes that peice does connect the key switch to the ignition switch rod. But without the exploded view I got we would have never gotten it back together.
