well i finally went out to get that ranger i was talking about. it turns out its a flex fuel v6 with a 110,000 on the clock fully loaded pwr locks windows. he bought it back in 03' used it till 05' when the trans started acting up.. so yestereday. i jumped.. Runs great but i'm getting a tune up and changing all the filters and all that since it been sitting almost 2 years.. but anyway the transmission does shift.. but only when i turn off o-d the speedometer nor the odometer dont work i know cause i know i had driven at least 15 miles and nothing moved. so could this cause the trans to "malfunction" once out of OD it seems kinda of flawless. I also notice that the powersteering is loud but i know alot of fords do that dont know if its "normal" but i know they do it and even in park if you turn the whell i little bit the whole trucks shakes violently what could be the source of that..
Thanks guys just wanting to drive my little beater truck I love it more and more.. now i know why everyones so crazy about these things..
Don't turn it in park lol... "loud" PS pumps should be trademarked by Ford...
Might be a VSS issue...is the ABS light on? The VSS can take a crap sometimes, will totally cut out the speedo, ABS, odometer, and make the tranny shifting go to hell... I'm still trying to chase down a VSS for an '02 SD that had those issues.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on your '99 is located on the upper part of the rear differential. A rather cheap part and fairly easy to replace yourself. It can also be called an "ABS Speed Sensor" at some parts stores.
