alternator question

alternator question
Ive never had a alternator do this so the other day my truck started making some noise so when I check it out it sounds like the noise is coming from the alternator and if you touch the alternator it feels like its jolting a bit my question is id imagine alternators have bearings of some sort to keep it spinning smooth can these bearings go bad but the alternator still work/charge properly ? thanks

Yes, alternator bushings/bearings can start to go bad on one that's still putting out juice - but usually not for long. If you have a piece of rubber tubing (like heater hose), hold a 3' piece of it to the alternator case and the other end to your ear; you will hear either a nice smooth "whir" or grinding noises. DON'T put the hose close to the fan belt!!!
