Okay lemme brag about my success story here... I drive a '94 XLT Bronco 5.8 and the ABS light was going on and off, until one day... it just stayed lit forever... reset the system by taking the negative terminal off, replaced the fuses, and finally took it to my repair shop...
They said that I needed a new pump. So I went to the Chiltons and looked up the error code and it was the one for the ABS pump. Scared as can be took it to Pep Boys, and they charged me $70 to find out what I already know.... dealer wanted $90 for a diagnosis charge.
Anyway, after crying over the $700 pump plus a couple hours for labor I was loosing faith in my Bronco. But then suddenly I decided to change the ABS pump relay.
Went to Kragens and paid $4 for the relay and it works fine. Can't say that this will work for everyone.... but my lesson for that day was if you want to find out what is REALLY wrong with your truck.... Do it yourself.
Thanks for the post!!!! I am having the same problem with my ABS going on and off. Mine comes on about twice a week sometimes more sometimes less. Did you experience any other symptoms other than the light just coming on? I will give that a try first since it is the least expensive route. Thanks,
:-X23 You took your Bronco to Pep Boys? Yeowch. I don't mind going to them to get parts, but I sure as heck aint gonna let some minimum wage tech touch my Bronco.
I hear ya on dealership charges though. I remember I took my bronco to North Central Ford for what a thought would be reasonable AC service. They said they have to do a AC Peformance test that cost $75 before they do any other work. It blows fine and the air is cold, I just wanted to make sure that the freon level was ok, so I am looking elsewhere. This from the same Dealership that wanted to charge me $775 to change my radius arm bushings (alignment included). And they also said that it might be extra if there are rivets on the brackets.
