When things get hot, the pressures go up in the A/C system, so it may very well be reaching the high pressure switch, but I would think that's unlikely. Probably just the PCM telling the A/C to turn off until the engine coolant comes back down a bit (like Kwik said).
Well everyone, I put in a call to my mechanic..(whom also is a master instructor at the local technical college) and he called me right back after class this evening. I asked the question about when you "punch or under hard acceleraton why the air conditioning seems to turn off". He told me that (and this is his words straight from the manuals)..."when you punch the throttle or are at a power setting close to wide open throttle, the PCM disconnects the clutch on the airconditioning compressor to not take power from the engine". In other words, it allows the motor to make more power when under a hight demand. He also said that some on some Dodge products, the PCM senses an increase in engine speed and voltage from the alternator and electronically disables the output of the alternator to also allow the engine to produce slightly more horsepower under a WOT conditon. Hope this clears things up....I would be 100% sure of his accuracy since he is the master mechanic instructor at the local Technical college and also runs his own automotive service, and has been my personal mechanic for all of my vehicles for the last 5 years. Take care everyone....Dave
