I always search before I post and didnt find much so my question is....I am fairly new to Ford Diesels I have an 04 PSD CC 4x4 F250. Occasionally I will have to get on it a tad and when I do it seems to vibrate or shutter thru or to the rear of the truck. Is this normal? It doesnt feel like smooth acceleration. I have proper tire air pressure, perfect alignment, all maint. complete. Dont know if this is nature of the beast or what.
BONUS QUESTION, How often should I repack wheel bearings or how can I tell there are in need? Thanks everyone!
ps The shudder or vibration happens when I am coming out of a stop.Such as a stop light...hit the gas shudders up to desired speed and then levels off to a smoother ride. Thanks again
Yes this is the same as I experienced and I fixed it with the spacers. I can't seem to find a link to the TSB. But if your under warranty you service dept will know about it and should be an easy fix. I'm guessing you have the short bed as they are more prone to this than the long wheel base. It all has to do with the drive line angle. I put a 4" lift on my 2003 and it needed 3 spacers to remove the vibration during take off.
Go to the Recalls/TSB tab at the top of the web page. Look at tsb# 05-17-6. I just made an appointment to get mine fixed. It does the same shudder starting out from a stop and then it goes away pretty quickly. If I take off real slow it won't do it.
Is there a link to the TSB so I can read it? THanks
I looked and found this... I know there's another one out these somewhere that has other techniques. I'll look some more. Shudder on Acceleration:
On trucks with single driveshafts, check the rear axle spacers. If the spacers are installed with the thin side (1 7/8") facing forward, they should be reversed (swapped left to right) so the wide side (2 1/4") faces forward. If the truck now only shudders with a load, swap out the spacers with 2" flat ones from an F250 long wheel base (two-piece driveshaft), P/N 2C3Z-5598-PA.
