Can't get my oil filter off

I can't get my oil filter off my 06' F-150 it's the first oil change it's had. The filter is shreaded down to just the plate with the threads and it won't budge it's like someone used locktite on it. Any suggestions or tips?

I doubt the put lock-tite in the threads. I took my 05 Scab to the dealership for the first oil change, and I have done it myself afterwards with no problems. I use a oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. I bought the wrench at a local auto parts store.

I stopped going to the dealership due to the high prices and long waiting times. For the price I pay to the dealer, I put fully synthetic oil.

Those filters are put on at the factory by a robot that puts them on way too tight. Plus no oil is put on the gasket. I would recomend the first oil change to be done by the dealer. MAybe you can use a hammer and a flat screwdiver to "carefully" unscrew what's remaining. Be careful not to damage anything else. Yelloman, may i ask how much your dealership was charging you for your oil change?

best bet at this point (gonna be messy) is to poke a big screwdriver right through it and unscrew it that way. That's what I did after a few choice words.

It's been a while (about 27000 miles ago), but i know that it was too much as I did not take advantage of the first complimentary oil change. I moved to another town and the Ford dealer here did not honored the offer. If I am not mistaken, it was probably about $40-$60. The said it was $10 fro the filter, 7.5 qts. of oil, and plus labor. you know that the stealership charges top retail for their premium "bulk" motor oil. Let's see, 7.5X$3.00=$22.5, add the $10 oil filter.....yeah, that's about right, give or take.

Ah, forgot to mention, they do give you all the free coffee you can drink while waiting...

Yeap! I second the above mentioned. I have done that in the past. Just be careful and DO NOT GET FRUSTATED. Just walk away and take a deep breath and come back to try again.

Remove the tube from the air intake and you can get at the oil filter from the top side.

My dealership is charging me 26, and i know the mechanic is good. He tops all my fluids, checks air in tires and they wash my truck. I'd be crazy to do it myself.

26 bucks for an oil change...the face that people actually pay 26 bucks for an oil change is crazy to me....

it takes 30 minutes of your time...get a little dirty and it's done and the best part.....you don't have to leave your house to do it...

i think it cost me about 12 bucks to do mine and thats most likley on the high side....so your paying double the price to have a clean truck.....

i guess to each their own but thats seams lazy...

Sounds like "this part" of the filter is already gone... (in his Orig. post)

I had something similar on my B2 happen... and mangled the thing down to the threaded diffuser plate/end-cap on the filter. I took a cheisel & punch w/a hammer and did some quick blows around the mid/outer edge (loosen direction)of what was left. It eventually jarred it loose.

well i know it would cost me more then 12 bucks to change my oil, plus they can't complain when it comes time for warranty work. I don't have the mess, plus i don't have the time to do it myself because i work 16 hours a day probably because i'm not "lazy".

I don't know where he gets $12 unless he's using some generic crappy oil.

The 5.4 v8 takes 7 quarts of oil. My local Wal-Mart just raised their Motorcraft oil price to $2.42 per quart. 7 quarts plus $3.28 Motorcraft filter = $20.22 plus tax to do it yourself.

So that $26 price sounds very good from your dealer.

This is what I did to get my filter off when it was on too tight (bought my truck used, last person put it on way too tight). Also, unplug the knock sensor so you don't accidentally hit it and break the clip.

I got about 1,000 miles before I got to do my oil change for the first time since I have had my truck. Got it with 8500 got 10500 on it now. I think I am gonna do it myself.
