I got up this morning, 6:30, to go dirt bike riding and was in my sons room talking to him. Then noticed a guy on his cell phone and his car parked, with his amigo inside, in front of my 06 SD. He walk back to his car then to my truck and was looking at my vin #. I ran out in my underwear and t shirt and yelled can I do something for you? He walk to his car got in and burned rubber out of there. I tried to get the plate but it was dark. Dang did I screw up. Got in to much of a hurry to run them off. Anyways, I ran in and called the PD but to no avail. PD showed up and I gave them the run down. I guess they might be back with a key to try and steal it, but it won't be out front anymore. Backyard behind the gate is its home usually but I had the toy hauler in its spot. Rearranged now. I am also going to get the locks all re keyed. Good idea or what. What are some other ways to keep my SD from going to Mexico??
Put in an auxillary power switch.
OR better yet, My buddy has a cool alarm that lets you start the vehicle but as soon as you put it into drive it shuts down and all power is lost.
Key??? Who needs a key to steal these SD's? Heck...all one needs is a straight-blade screw driver. Seriously! Just jamb the door lock...and do the same to the ignition. Off they go! How do I know??? Well last July '06...my SD was almost stolen. Someone must have scared them off, because they were about 5 seconds from finishing the job. I had to get new key cylinders for both driver and pass doors. Plus...new ignition switch.
IMO...get an alarm system...with an engine disable feature. Reason...I like the alarm feature is noise will scare off some. The engine disable...prevents it from being started period. Make sure it is self arming too!
TIP: DO NOT leave your garage door opener in your SD. I did...and they stole that! Had to buy a new opener...and delete the old. Not hard to do...just a bummer!

Get a good alarm system that can disable the ignition, has a GPS module, and has a 2-way remote. Here is a link to one:
This particular model has a 2-way remote that works up to a mile away and will alert you if someone toys with your vehicle. The GPS module will also send you alerts if your alarm goes off, if your batteries are disconnected, if your hood is opened, if your vehicle crosses the canadian or mexican border, etc etc. You can also remotely start your vehicle (via a phone line or the internet), disable the ignition, track it, etc etc. It's a good setup.
Make sure a reputable dealer does the install. These things need to be well hidden. Don't bother with lojack.. it's _worthless_ if you live anywhere near the Meixcan border, even if you get the early warning system.

Our SD's do NOT have a transponder ignition system. That has NEVER been available until now with the '08 model year.
Again...just curious...

To see how much it going to cost me if they get my truck. Double check the policy. I also shut the breaker off for my gate. Now they will have to drive thru it

I see...makes perfect sense! If your SD is not a Daily Driver, then until you can get an alarm or other security installed...here is a tip...
TIP: Pull the Fuel Pump fuse (check owners manual)
That is what I did until I could get a tow to the dealer the following day. I at least slept easy that evening.
I'd put the early detection lo-jack on it. Plus I'd put a few sticks of dynamite under it with a transmitter. The second you realize your truck is gone hit the button and ka-boom Grant it, you'd have to replace your truck with a new '08 (we wouldn't want that now would we???) and it's be the last truck they'd ever steal also....lol
Just put a Ravelco system on my 07 King Ranch dually. Listed as being in buisness for 31 years and never lost a vehicle to thief. They are out of Texas. Cost about $450.00

Backyard behind the gate don't always work. Ask me. $500.00 later and now mine aint going anywhere unless I'm in it.
As for other ideas, I put a remote start with starter interrupter. Had my locks recoded as well. It will stop most but I am sure the expert wouldn't have alot of trouble with it.
Sounds to me like the repo guy was looking for a truck your color. That happened to me a few years ago. Was sitting there minding my own business watching TV.. Heard a diesel idling in front of the house and went to see if it was anyone I knew. Low and behold there is a wrecker parked behind my wife's truck and the dude is checking the VIN.. Now this truck was a 7 year old Chevy that's been paid off for at least 4 years so I went out and said "You got the wrong truck, move along." He basically did the same thing your guy did, didn't say a word just jumped in his truck and took off.
Still need to secure your truck, but I wouldn't panic too much.
I have a Ungo 2 way alarm on mine with remote start, turbo timer, valet among other features and I feel a lot better now about parking it. Insurance people even lowered my payment by 10%. I figure in 4-5 years it will pay for itself.
