B2000?

I was given a 1982? Mazda B2000 several years ago, sans the engine. It had a 4banger of sorts, and a 5 speed. I got to thinkin- I could put a new motor in it and get some hellacious fuel economy. I need to know where I can get more info. I am also wondering if anyone has fixed up a truck like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Problem is the B2000 is a Mazda platform... there is nothing Ford about it. While I'd imagine possible, it'd be almost impractical to put any ford engine into this monster.

Do a search for Mazda trucks... I'm sure someone there could be a lot more knowledgeable, as we're all Ford guys here.

Good luck

Actually some of that era Mazdas had Ford motors, not sure which years.
If you can remember that was the Ford Courier. It seems that some Couriers had Mazda motors and some Mazdas had Fords. I never saw a Ford in one.

My first Mazda was a 83 B2000, it had the old 2000 with a timing chain and after some tuning it would get 35mpg with a hired driver behind the wheel. The motor was great but the body was single wall & thin and they eventually get real rusted out.

Funny thing back then the B2200 was a diesel, later (aprox 88) that became the gas engine for all till 93.

I wanted to fix it to make my daily commute to work, but the payoff for the repairs would take a long time to break even. I'm still gonna check on a few things, because I want to be sure before I say no.

If you could get a carbed engine to drop in there it wouldn't be bad at all since there wouldn't be a lot of wiring to do.

Still...it'll take a while to break even.

BigDave, the Courier had a 2.3L Ford engine mated to a 5 speed Mazda tranny. (Hmm sound familiar?) The B2000 meant it had the Mazda 2.0L Mazda engine. Some of the Couriers had this same set up as well.
There are plenty of builders out in the bone-yards, but as I'm finding out a cheap rebuild?? I've got close to $2K in just the engine on a 2.3 Ford, and that's just rebuilding it.
I'd suggest finding a bone-yard that has one running and would honor it and swap it in. You'd probably be better off and not too much in it. Even better would be let you hear it before they pull it.

I would think a 2.3L Ford motor would be pretty much a drop in. Finding a good running one in a junkyard might be harder then the actual swap. Still, i would think it would be worth it with the right motor at the right price.
