So I went to the auto wrecker today, in the rain, and found me one nice rust free, only a few dents, shortbox for my 89 ford! Found a no crack winshield and some other parts I needed. Best part was the box though, paid 125 bucks with taxes and everything for it! I was going to buy the frame too, but it was hit on the side in the front, and it seems to be bent abit. Too bad otherwise Id really have a jump on my shortbox summer project!
It`s not raining here and yes, it`s above freezing too...
This sounds like another good day at the wreckers, smokin deal.
Amigos wanted $350-400 for a so so 89 F150 box complete with a fair amount of rust and the usual assortment of good sized dents.
How did you manage to get the glued in windshield out or did you have help?
Well so far morris I havent got the winshield out yet, or the box off yet, thats tomorrows project, by the way does anyone need a rust free straight 87-97 ford truck box? theres two more there, regular boxes, with no rust and in good shape.
Also has anyone taken a windshield out of a vehicle at all?

It`s pretty hard when it`s glued in. On my 84 Ranger Speedy Auto Glass broke it in afew places using the proper tools/technique for removal, it just wouldn`t come free.
I tried on an 80 Mercury car, got it out most of the way but there were some places I didn`t have great access and ended up breaking it.
It can be done but luck has to be on your side. Try taking it out first and THEN paying for it.......If the wrecker will go for that.
Sounds good, hey if anyone is ever at a auto wrecker and sees a 67-72 truck with good upper molding trim, I'd be interested. I would only want the smaller size I think they are either 1.5 inches or 1.75 inches in height wise. I don't want that big 3 inch trim.
Well it is a pickapart type place morris, so they will never know what I am out there wrecking What all did you use for tools when you tried to take that windshield out?

How many wood y'all like...NOS no less.
Local wrecker has tons of 1960/ truck parts, some are NOS...and NOS doesn't mean nasty old scheiss...it means new old stock.
The SoCal Chapter will be junkyarding there in April or May, y'all are invited to come along.
This is a closed yard, which means the general public can't get past the front counter.

preppy the glass shops use a pneumatic tool that has a bent blade that slips in between the glass and the trim, then behind the glass and cuts the urethane and then its pressed out. pretty difficult to do and still they break almost 50% of the time. Might be better off trying to buy new
Thanks for the advice effie, I was kind of leaning towards that too. I have been researching that, and for 30 bucks, a windshield is cheap, but I probably couldnt get it out anyways.
The other way is to use a piece of wire and a guy on the inside and a guy on the outside the you put lots of oil on as you saw back and forth so that the stuff doesn't stick back together again. There are hand pulling tools available but I wouldn't gaurantee them. The wire method was what we used to use at SGI when I worked there (a long time ago).
