I backed my 97 F-250 PSD out of the shop tonight after a brake job. It started good and was idling while I closed the door when it just stopped. Lights were still on, glowplugs work. I don't see any smoke so I don't think there is any fuel. I've had a small fuel leak in the valley lately. I'll start checking the filter and such in the morning. Any ideas? PK
did it just stop or did it start running poorly and gradually die out? immediate shutdown indicates something electronic. gradual miss and stutter then dying would be a lack of fuel (or air) to the cylinders. find and fix that fuel leak. good to check the filter and general state of the fue system. just did brakes? didn't touch anything else on the truck?
I'm going out shortly to start checking. I didn't notice the tach. I'll put that on the list. My maintenance CD talks about a Fuel Reset switch. Know anything about this? Some sort of inertia activated unit that shuts the fuel to the engine off.
Went out to the shop and thought I'd see if it would fire up. It did! Started good ran smooth for about 30 seconds then just quit. I started it again and it started then stopped. I'm thinking fuel. The filter is a new Baldwin and the filter/seperator housing is full. I'm going to look at that regulator screen tomorrow. Anymore ideas? By the way, all fuses are good.
Cam sensor 3rd notion. they do what happened to you, or leave you stranded or if your truck is blessed you get a CEL saying intermittant signal for the cam sensor like mine did but that seems to be very rare.
I replaced the cam position sensor as advised by several members here. It was an instant cure. I have 11 mechanical diesels and two electronic ones and these electronic motors leave me scratching my back side. Much to learn yet. Thanks again. PK
