Okay guys, for yall who have been wondering what DIY Stage 1 injectors will do on the dyno. You definatly want to read this.
For the second time, myself and the rest of the Death Row Diesel crew attended the Central Texas Cummins turbo diesel club dyno event. So to know where we came from, here's what I did last year and the mods I had.
Last years stats were:
Stock injectors
Stock HPOP
DP Tuner 2 pos chip 40hp/120hp settings
100 shot nitrous
The end result 255hp/514tq
That was in my 120 setting w/nitrous
Now for the good stuff. This years mods are:
DIY 160cc Stage 1 injectors
17* SD HPOP
7.3 Intercooler
Tymar HPX line
DP Tuner reprogramed for the new mods and Nitrous.
I Dynoed 3 times.
40hp program no nitrous 339hp/623tq
120hp program no nitrous 350hp/646tq
120hp program w/nitrous 377hp/697tq
So the end result was a gain of 122hp/183tq
Now the question asks..............was all the money and effort worth it????
EVERY DAMN PENNY AND MINUTE!!!!
The biggest gain was the injectors. But I did do all the supporting mods except the intercooler and reprogram before hand. So there ya go guys, you wanted to know what those injectors will get you, alot more power and if it's possible, a bigger permagrin!!!!
Good stuff dude on your PSD... Let me ask, do you drive this truck as a daily driver? If so just what kind of affect did these injectors have on your fuel mileage when you can control yourself and keep your foot out of it as you drive her??? I am quite certain she is more than just fun to drive with all this extra HP...
Any tranny mods to your truck, if this an auto tranny truck?
Rowdy, it didn't really change my mileage as far as I can tell. It is my daily driver. But I drive equal parts stupid, and sane so I couldn't tell ya. I know it didn't drop any. It's a 5 speed so no tranny mods other than a Val Air Clutch to hold it.
WOW that is right on the money of beans estimate of stage 1s!
350/650
I was very supprised with the little difference between the tow and extreme program.
377hp on nitrous
From what I can tell, I think Jody backed off some timing for my nitrous. I suspect it would have made alot more power if it wasn't tuned for nitrous. What suprises me, is that a 100 shot only makes about 20hp. But from everthing I've learned, to get what the shot says it is, you have to be fueling it waaaay more than I do. Thanks for the props guys. I know I was really pumped.
I am curious, so when you mash it to the floor for the first time, were you pleasantly surprised, or didnt know what happened, or in just a state of shock and awe? I want to know what to expect....HINT HINT......... Be honest as to what you compare i too. Any common car that I might have been in or similar? Thanks for the answers....
Todd, the first time I mashed on it with the new injectors..........holy crap. Realisticly, it was like getting out of a V6 F150 and jumping into a stock Lighning. The difference was HUGE. Do it man!!!!
my79f, I'm so proud of you man. That took guts. No one in their right mind would take a pretty much stock truck to a dyno event where they KNEW trucks would be pumping out 700hp plus runs all day just to get a base line. I can't wait to see what your numbers will be next year. And I'm sorry you left so early, there was alot of doughnut juice being drank, and there was pleanty of tire smoke!!!! Let me put it this way, three trucks exploded at least one rear tire each.
Foreman, I forgot to answer your question. When I first started using nitrous I did. But I never got over a 100 shot. Mostly because that was the biggest jet I ordered. And in order to go bigger, I'll have to make another order. I think the hassle of that will keep me from blowing my engine up for a while. To be honest, I'm scared to go much bigger.
