Throttle Cable

Is it odd that my 54 does not have a throttle cable? Or was it just what ever was ordered was ordered? It is the deluxe cab but no throttle cable. Thanks.

The hand throttle was an option on the F-100. It was standard on the bigger trucks, like F-350 and up. Your truck probably has a silver plug in the hole where the throttle would go.

It was usually for the PTO ... so if you were running something like a dump bed or what-have-you, you'd tach the motor up to about 2000 RPM with the throttle cable, then hop out of the cab to work the equipment.

I remember as a kid on the farm we would use my Dad's 48 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup to pick up rocks or to hand pick corn. We woudl put it in creeper gear, pull out the throttle and let it go and we all could help pick rocks or corn and just made sure someone got behind the wheel before we got to the end of the field. Very handy, also useful on cold mornings till the truck was warmed up!
