I need to get motivated to work on my 56 . It has volare ifs , a 472 cadillac engine with 400 trans & a Dodge car rearend to match the front bolt pattern. It's been several weeks since I've made any progress . Maybe the warmer weather will get me going again . I hope to be driving it soon.
Spring is just around the corner. Nothing like driving your rig down the road with the window down. There's just something about these old trucks that make you just eas up on the old gas peddle and put your mind into a more relaxed place. Mine does any how. The more you do to your rig the more you want to show it off. It's easy to go buy what everybody else has, just try to find what we've got.

No progress in weeks?!?!?!
We laugh at weeks around here. I just read some of my posts from 2003 and it's amazing how little I've accomplished since then. You'll do fine, just set short term and long term goals and get busy. Spring does really get people fired up to get things done. Good luck on the project!
It always came in spurts for me. I would go all out working on it for months at a time, then it would sit for months at a time. When you really start seeing progress and can actually see yourself driving it in the near future, that will really motivate you. Like I always say, "Money and time, time and money", that's all any of us ever need.
A little more technical know-how wouldn't kill me either
I hear ya on that one, you never stop learning. My Dad was a shop teacher for over 20 years and my Grandpa has built hot rods since the 40's. I have learned a ton from both, and by doing alot of reading...alot of what I know, I learned on this website as well.
Brian , your truck & mine look like twins , almost . Non-identical twins , I guess.Mine has a painted grill & bumper .
Hmm...could be. Thats cool. My grill is dented behind the V8 symbol. It needs to be replaced (someday). Most people don't notice it unless they get real close. The symbol hides it pretty well.
What got me motivated was finally getting it painted. Once I did that The other things just started to fall into place. I hooked up the electrical system for the first time this last weekend and it seemed like most of it worked. But like 53fatfndr said the closer you see yourself to driving it the more motivateed you will be. I'm makeing the 440mile round trip this coming weekend to work on it and hopfully drive it around the block for the first time.
I made the first real progress this weekend for a change, it had been a while. I got my steering column in and pulled the brake pedal from the parts truck(PO had cut the pedal off below floor). Now need to make the linkage from the pedal to the booster and my brakes will be done.
Little by little I am checking those things off of the "to do" list, but I still look at it and say, someday.......

Allright!!!! another Caddy!! I'm not alone
I think we all fall into ruts now and again. Soemtimes the moneys not their, sometimes no time, sometimes just no motivation. Its easy to get overwhelmed with the project. Break it down into smaller steps, don't forget the big picture just don't focus on it as much. Set yourself some small realistic goals and then start working on it. Is your truck driveable at all? That big Caddy engine is fun, lots of torque!
Heck, I havent touched my truck in about a month now. Hopefully this weekend I can get some work in.
Take some pics of your truck and make a gallery, we'd love to check out what you're working on
