Starter going?
Hey guys. Got a problem with the starter and before I go give my hard earned $$$ to the parts store, I figured I post here first. Problem happened last night on a 160 mile trip. Got 30+ miles on the interstate and had to stop for gas. After I was done, got in to give her a crank and it turns over slow, like 2 or 3 revs and dies. I waited about 1-2 minutes and tried again and it turned over enough to get it started. Battery is new and cranks fine when cold. Is this the starter going or could it be something else?

Thats what it sounds like to me if you know the battery is good. Most parts stores will test it for you so you wont be replacing something you dont need to. Im not sure but I think they might want it out of the vehicle. When mine was acting up I took it out and brought it to them and they tested it for me(for free). It was fairly easy to remove. 15 min if you have the tools handy.

probly the starter since it sounds heat related. a hot starter can give that problem. but still get it tested. also check voltages at the battery with the truck running and off to verify the alternator output is good.

If you stop in a sears they can check the amp draw while its on. The local Kmart here use to do that when there was a auto deparment ( they worked on cars ) I am not sure but sears might do it for free. Tell um your thinking its time for a battery and ask them to check it out for ya. I think the normal warm draw is about 200 amps for a V8. The brains 
at Auto Zone might be able to check it on the truck as well. Not sure. Maybe make a few calls before takking the starter off.
