Any Problems with Biodiesel??

I have been kicking the idea around of switching over to biodiesel. Have any of you guys had any experiences with the stuff? Any comments would be great, thanks.

Youll need to come over to the bio diesel forum after this thread is moved to that section. Check out the pictures and the experts. Fabman, Phyde, and myself. I personally pick the brain of Fabman and do alot of reading. Just read through the section and youll get alot of answers. I have the 7.3 and have run everything through her. Bio is the only way to go.

You know what we should not move this. Your asking a specific question on the 7.3 and bio. There is no issues. Now if you were asking a general questions then yeah come over and read the bio side.

We have have found that the 7.3 loves Bio and our 6.0 does not. Certain truck's with Isuzu parts don't particularly like it either.

I've been running a lot of Bio lately. B99 from the pump in San Jose. The truck runs great on it and the only issue I've noticed is it's a bit harder to start my truck on a cold morning. Maybe another half-second of cranking. Warm starts are identical to #2.

I'd read up a lot on the home made stuff and maybe be somebody's helper for a while until you're really familiar with the process before I would trust my own brew though.

Doesn't do much for me. Makes it quieter according to the wife-o-meter but not something I'd notice or care about. B40 and up makes me lose mileage.

Run it and enjoy it. just when you start using it, have a fuel filter ready, cause you will be changing it sooner than you think. at least till the tank gets clean from dino residue.
we dont have any here yet, but I hope summer time it does. I have only run ONE tank so far, but I also run SVO, but that is separate from my dino system.

My tank was clean after 60K. I know this because I took the tank off to do the hutch and harpoon and could see inside.

The only problem I can tell you is that commericial manufactures are not taking all the glycerin out of the fuel or not finishing the transversification process. Usually this is a higher problem in the colder regions. Alot of truck drivers are getting a bad taste in their mouth because the manufacture is skimping on quality control. Always always carry a extra fuel filter for that reason. Your oil will stay honey colored indefinately.

depending on your climate your 7.3 can use any blend. i would say use whatever you want. if you want to just ease into it use b20 or you could go straight to the b100

I was talking to my service manager (close relation) tonight and he told me about a PSD not sure if 7.3 or 6.0 that came through the shop last month. They basically needed to replase the whole fuel system because of the lard build up. Would this be caused by the glycerin not being removed or not being thoroughly washed? If not What could have caused this?
