Works like a champ but I still don't see how the mesh can be good in there. I guess the bearing being gone was enough to cause some additional loss of mesh....................don't know.
I'll be able to tell better when I pull the tranny I guess. Hopefully before the summer is over.
Admin, Dennis - did I post this in the wrong forum? Sorry. What is GAD. I'll reread the FAQ and see where I screwed up.
Dave, I requested that the thread be moved to the GAD (general automotive) forum because the original post was about a certain type of starter and not how it was related to a 73-79 truck.
Basically type of starter vs other types of starters.
Later the thread turned to the starter & your truck.
IMO, If too many NON/73-79 topics are posted in this forum the Actual 73-79 specific related threads drop off page one and get lost to people.
For years on this forum it wasn't allowed and has been considered Unfair to bonafide 73-79 truck questions.
The specific systems forums have to be BUILT-UP as well as the year truck forums so people should get used to posted in them too instead of this forum being the ........Catch-all..forum.
That's why they were created.
Some people who don't agree with that simple logical or common sense thinking get into arguments because they want things their way.
The 73-79 truck forum is one of the fastest moving forums where I have seen a post go from the top of page one to half way down page 2 in less than 3 hours.
Tim was only Publically telling me he wasn't moving it instead of privately.
But I already figured it out that they weren't going to.
I have years experience at this myself.....but, I would have moved it from the start because it wasn't 73-79 related.
hey man, i am a die hard ford fan. first off make sure the starter is really bad. bench test it. i've replaced the one in my ranger(83 same starter type) because it was hit or miss. sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't start. many a day i push started it. turns out after replacing the good starter with another one which now grinds, that i found a bad ground. and have been happy starting. if your ford starter grinds, or needs a shim there is a solution for that. replace the starter drive(should have 9 teeth) with one from an escort 1.9 it will have ten teeth. it makes the grinding go away. this drive is a little bigger. it will make your day if that is your problem. and it works.
