Not the exact same one, but something like it. I've seen it on a couple 89 F-150's but I am wondering if one will fit on mine and which one. Will this one? I want the same type with four braces out to the wheel from the horn. I have power steering and I want to keep it, but I am not sure how. I guess I could always pop out the controls and put them in the console that I am going to change to diamond plate. It will give it a genaric look though, and I DO NOT want generic, I want custom and different. Any Ideas on what to get, or do they have kits like everything else in the world? Shoot!
If you have a 92 down Non air bag or a they used to make wheel kit for it.(had cruise brackets.) I don't know if still do because we are now in the lack of demand group which is starting to make it hard to find accessories. If you wanted to do away with a newer airbag system . Which legally you can't. If the shaft is same should bolt on. But columns changed in 92 and shaft is probably different as well as switches . (If you wanted to put old on newer) Tell us your year and we'll see what we can do.
Thanks to both of you really. Anything is everything when ya both are helping me out. No Air bags, cruise control, can't tell if the column is a split column or what yet. To much other stuff with this truck going on for right now. Thanks for the help though.
I couldn't see what steering wheel you wanted, but a quick suggestion, ensure the steering wheel is 17". I picked up a Grant steeering wheel and adapter from Advance Auto Parts and liked the look but the new steering wheel was a 13.5" wheel and it sucks after your used to the stock size wheel. You wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference but it really does. Trying to steer a truck with a tiny wheel just plain sucks. If you look at grants site, they have truck steering wheels. If yours is like mine (91) it is really easy but you need a steering wheel puller.
Here see if this works, so that you can see what I am looking at. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...d26/e8dd_1.jpg
thanks for the heads up on the size of the wheel. It would suck to turn a 13.5" wheel instead of standard size
That is the exact wheel I tried. It's really not worth it to put that one into the truck. It becomes a PITA to even pull into a parking spot. If you look on Grants site, they have steering wheels made for truck that have 17" diameter, I would recomend picking one of those.
[EDIT]: I had that steering wheel on my truck for about 3 days and then swapped the old one back in. It's amazing how much difference it really makes.
Be carefull getting the wheel off. When I changed mine without a puller, I removed the nut and was beating on the back of the steering wheel with the palms of my hands when the thing shot off and dern near broke my nose. Just something to be aware of. I would use a puller!!
Pulling the wheel off without a puller can be done by backing the nut off until it is flush with the shaft. Have a buddy pull on the wheel evenly while you take a brass hammer and give the nut and shaft a good whack. If you do not have a brass mallet it is far cheaper to buy a puller.
Buy the puller...did that just other things at large like an engine to replace before replacing that ugly steering wheel worth 117 dollars. they sure aren't check for the regular 17' wheels.
