dipstick tube snapped
dipstick tube snapped
OK, so I have a 01 f350sd and i went to check my oil and the dipstick tube itself is so rusted it snapped in half so I took it to the dealer which I knew was going to be over priced labor but still checked the tube itself is 20 dollars but labor is upwards of 300-500 so I was wondering if there is anyone one hopefully locally in Michigan that has done this before on a modular engine that may be able to help by the way my engine is the 5.4 triton.
This job can be a little intimidating, but its not that bad. I did it on my old 2003 5.4L. I started by taking the 1 bolt out of the flange that holds the dipstick on, then i just took vice grips at the lowest point i could grab the dipstick and just worked it back and forth for a long time until i could pull it up.
After you remove the one bolt the dipstick tube is held in the block by an O-ring. It will take a bit of effort to pull it out, but it will come out. Once you remove it just make sure the O-ring comes out with it. If not, you will need to remove the O-ring from the block before you install the new dipstick tube.
When you install the new tube make sure you push it in far enough to seat the O-ring. Give it a slight tug after you push it in, if it comes out the O-ring did not seat properly.
