Here we go again ,
I thought we all came to the conclusion that while a Camper special is similar...it isnt a Super Camper special and in fact that the spare in the box was an option that could be put on any 140" or longer wheel base truck. And that the SCS was discontinued after 76-77ish.

If it says Camper special then thats what it is unless you know for a fact it had the Super Camper emblems at one time (either from owner history or build sheet)....just like twins...theyre similar but not the same thing.

This thread is starting to tick me off now haha. You cant just lump all of them in together as there was at least one thing that made them different...the stupid little badge...w/o that it isnt a SCS! If you lump them all in togther...its like saying that all trucks are the same regardless of make model or year.

Chris ...The truck JPD was talking about was a 73 and not a 77 or newer is what I replied to.

Emblems sometimes disappear....... ask BMW owner's

and that's what I leading to .. perhaps it was a SCS but the emblems are gone.

Instead you just said:

Edit:
In other...other words...were essentially saying the same thing here

Chris.

Look real close at that second word in that post.

The Word is if

then go read the SCS article I posted on page one.Post #12

where it mentioned..... with a new 140" WB to handle 11-12' campers....5" longer than previous......

it is in the paragraph directly left of the back of the camper bottom.

I must ask... the 73 F350 with the Camper option was a (Super Camper),
and not a (Super Camper Special) and not a (Camper Special)
Am I Correct?

Still getting educated!

Nope,
Two different options...if it says "SUPER" anywhere its a SCS. A Camper Special just says Camper Special no word Super anywhere.Look at the examples of badges posted if you need a more visual representation.
-Chris

Heres a better pic off of my truck: (Ill change it to a link if I need to in a bit)

I thought you all concluded that if the Emblem did not say SUPER...
then a truck was just a Camper Special.

So if an Emblem does not say SPECIAL... as in what was said in an
earlier post about a 73 F350 Super Camper... then how can it be
a (Super Camper Special) as was mentioned above.

I cant believe all this - over a Dinky little emblem when all the trucks
had the camper option.

I ask for some folks to produce a build sheet or paper work with no replys...

I find it hard to believe nobody has ther build sheets with any thing more
than the (CAMPER) box option... marked as a package, to really prove something.

I would like to see a build sheet with a (SUPER) box option... as a package for me
to believe any of these trucks are really any different or more Rare than the next
when it comes to the 140 inch WB, F350 Styleside Reg cabs.

Did you read the Original Ford Newsletter I posted in post #12 ?

That is basically "right from the horses mouth"

It says right in there that this new Truck with a 5" longer wheelbase is designed to haul those longer Campers of 11'-12ft.

Before that camper's were around 8-10 ft

Closely:
Read the brochure
Read the newsletter
Read the emblem page
Read the parts list.

Dsep,
It is special because of the extra length...in other words the "Super" designation automatically gives it the "Special" designation as that wheel base and much beefier suspension was not standard to F350's...which in turn essentially makes it "Special". So NOT ALL 350's had the Camper box it was an option...and just because you have it...it isnt a Camper special either...like I stated before..it has to have other ear marks of the package...badging wiring and suspension to make it what it is.

For instance mine has a Dana 80 instead of a 60 and is a 1 ton truck rather than a 3/4 ton. it also has a higher GVWR than a regular F350 and so on.

Do you see now? Ill see if I cant find my build sheet or not...I just moved so I may not be able to locate it right off the bat. You're really making this more complicated than it is honestly.
-Chris

Edit:
There were also other otions that were included on the SCS like trans cooler& oil cooler and there was a difference in the ammount you could carry in either as well. As far as rarity goes theres a thread about that already...the SCS's only numbered 3,300 in their entire production run over a very short time....take into account the attrition rate from heavy use and youre left with very few of them today.....it would be about like doubting that the Shelby Cobra is a rare car lol.

If you dont believe what some of us are telling you then its hardly our fault either...Mil1ion and I have both given you examples of what makes an SCS an SCS. Fact of the matter is that the SCS was a Specially constructed vehicle in the sense that not everyone ordered one equipped with its options. They changed the emblem in 74-76 to read "Special"...probably so that people wouldnt get all confused. I should also point out that mine is an early production 73 as well so that could account for the lack of the word "Special" in the badge but its still a SCS. Not only that if you look carefully in the parts list that Mil. posted earlier the type 14 badge...the Super Camper Special badge is listed for years " 1974/976" which covers 74-76 not 73...which appears to be the first year of the different SCS.

So only 3300 Super Camper Specials were built? That covers 74-76. How many 77-79 F350, 140" wb with spare tire in the bedside Camper Specials were built? How many '73 Super Campers were built?

Just curious, as I have a 77.

Thanks, Randy

That I'm not sure of honsetly...maybe Numberdummy can shed some light on that...I dont know that anyone will be able to unless they find out first how many non SCS's were ordered w/ the spare in the bed...then narrow that down to the ones ordered w/ the "Camper Special" designation.

Sorry,
I should have made it clear that CAMPER box I am referring to, is
accually a small square on the build sheet that says (CAMPER) which makes it
start life as a Camper Special I would believe.

I believe in 79... if marked would make it a Camper Special... correct me
if I am wrong.

I have no clue what other year build sheets look like...
but would sure like to know, that is why I ask if other folks had build sheets,
hope you under stand where I am coming from.

I do under stand the options as I own a 140 inch WB Camper Special
and have for several years.

Thanks for the info, Dan
