actually, you can(not trying to start an arguement,) but if you leave a job to go to school, you can get ei, and in some cases you may qualify for some educational grants... some of the guys in my class did that. that was back in NL though...
I can't get much for grants since I just got my truck driving paid for. I figure siast the pre-employment is about 2000, it's just the living expenses.
Yeah since you got your trucking paid for, they wont pay for your electrician. I tried the same thing only I did the electrician thing first. Also you cant go on ei and go to school at the same time. If your on ei, your supposed to be ready, able and willing to work everyday. There is a few ways around that though, pay for your schooling yourself and dont let them know your going to school, and dont claim it on your taxes or anything.
Well i want to do as much work as possibly. But I am going to get a shop to help me out with it too. I wouldnt want to spend a ton of money on a motor that I screwed up! Im not going to tackle building it for a year or so yet either. Going to try a few smallblock rebuilds first, work my way up there.
You should be able to build the bottom half yourself. Pretty much the only thing you can't do in your garage is boring your block and rebuilding your heads.
Yeah I was going to take it to someone to have the block checked and cleaned, and bored. As for the heads, man I dont know what to do with them yet! Port and polish them, get new ones. I was going to try doing this truck cheap as possibly, and spend more coin on my 460 but who knows. Just got to research more I guess!
Heads are easy....if ya got the machine. I had all my machining and bottm rebuilt for me since of my working schedule, since I did my heads myself knew they were done right. LOL wow I'm getting cocky.
Not to many people have the valve grinder, seat grinder and valve guide installer machines. Not to mention all the different stones and other parts needed to do the heads right.
usually they bring a pretty penny to used even the old ones. We got our setup at the same auction I bought my 19573/4 ton for 225. It came with a decent size set of slide pins and stones. We have two power plants forheads one a hamer style drill and the other curves to a 45 degree which would be ideal on a flathead 8.
We got a neighbor who also has a set of stuff, so we can borrow parts seems to work fine we are still learning how to use it but its comin!
