I just looked at jamestheron08's post about his fire.....that's really a bad break.... and I saw you guys talking about a cruise recall. Then I went and looked at the recalls up top and don't see any in there for cruise for the F150's. What was that cruise recall for?
Is there a way I can find out if any recalls have been done to my 92? Would a recall cover something that old?
Thanks........Bob
I haven't felt it other than to push it on.......I'll do that today and see if there is any heat.
Both switches?........I have an On-Off on the left........and Set/Resume/Coast on the right side of the steering wheel.
The switch is a pressure switch mounted to the brake master cylinder, not the control switches on the steering wheel. The master cylinder pressure switch turns off the cruise control when it senses brake pressure. The problem is that the diaphragm inside the switch ruptures and allows brake fluid up to the electrical part of the switch. The voltage jumps through the brake fluid to ground, causing heat and ultimately a fire. One big issue is that the switch is fed 12V all the time, even with the key off. What Ford does is install a jumper wire harness with an in-line circuit breaker or fuse of some type so that if/when the switch shorts to ground, the circuit is cut. I think they might even replace the switch when the warranty work is performed. The cruise switches were first used in 93, as far as I know. The older trucks were not susceptible to this problem because they did not have this pressure switch--they used a vacuum bleed on the brake pedal inside the cab.
I just checked my truck...I just bought it a month ago....that harness on the master cylinder look new, it has a bright blue sticker on it that says it has a thermal fuse in it that is not replaceable. I guess my recall was taken care of.
the 92 -93 had a fuel system recall way back when . Also I had a recall on ignition switch/related but can't remember what truck . I had my 94 Done 2-3 months ago . 2nd owner. Same week i got its notice I got notice for my parts truck its had 6 owners that I know of . They won't give my the part (I tried and but a truck on flat bed isn't covered.)
I bought a 94 explorer 3 years ago and about 6 months ago we got a recall notice about the firestone tires blowing out. I think I am the 3rd owner, so it didn't take long for Ford to find us.
