I have a 99 superduty V10 bought it used in Nov.06 with a mild miss turned out to be a bad coil, I bought a aftermarket coil and Bosh paltium plugs then the I found the EGR was bad this fixed my misfire then it started back again so I replaced all the coils from ford still there... I put it on the scan tool found a bad 02 sensor replaced both still no luck I then decieded to change the fuel pump still no change, I cleaned the mass air changed the PCV, By this time I had spent over $2000.00 with no change I had lost most of it's power she wouldn't pull it's self out of a mud puddle just gutless. I started over I pulled out the spark plugs with only few hundred miles and they looked bad so I changed them with autolite platiums and worked the very best till today again just a few hundred miles later and the fuel milege sucks and it is missing again looking for ideas ........
This is a wild stab...I had a 94 town car (until a deer took it out) and it was running fine. I opted to change the plugs (4.6 modular motor like the V10) and wires "just because". I put in the autolite platinum and it ran fine for a week or so.
Developed an intermittent miss that gradually got worse, and mpg and performance started to degrade. My wife's cousin is the service manager at a Lincoln dealer, and he said to pul the platinum plugs and go with autolite copper plugs...some of the older modular motor just won't run right on platinum...did not know why.
At $2 each it's another $20....might try it...who knows!! Good luck
I don't know what to suggest to fix your problem...but I can tell you that I have a 99 V10 SD with 161,000 miles on it and it still pulls as strong as when it was new.
If you can find a shop that deals with the modular mustangs they can help you more than the dealer sometimes or find a dealer that works on a lot of trucks.
Also check the wiring harness connector under the air filter box/canister. My truck missed when an injector quit firing due to a connector that was not firmly snapped together from the factory.
Just a guess but it sounds like the problem I created on my 2000 5.4.I changed the plugs myself at about 105k with no problems then about a week later it started loosing power and running on 7 cyl. Took it to the dealer and scanned it and found a bad coil.He changed it and it was fine, come to find out when you change the plugs you have to be VERY careful when reinstalling the coil. If the spring/wire is not seated on the terminal of the plug it will work for a while until it burns up that spring/wire that goes from the plug to the coil pack.I had a 5.4 so Im not sure if the V10 is the same but I bet you have one or two dead cyls with no spark
I going to do a compression test tomorrow and inspect the plugs and maybe try a set from the dealer .......I love the truck and I need the power to haul but it just keeps letting me down..
Always use ford plugs.. Motorcraft..Bosch plats are junk in that motor..and many others.
Dick
just some more FYI.......MotorCraft and AutoLite are the same thing, just different packaging.........you can pick up a set of AutoLite 103's at your local WallyWorld!!
The injector wasn't much at all I just can't get one until Tuesday had to be ordered in..But I did learn a bit about the plugs my v10 seems to burn a bit hotter than others and it was burning the platium off so the ford dealer found some plugs with a higher heat range than the ones it calls for..but I will let you know on Tuesday the difference...
Should use the plugs it calls for. It doesn't run hotter than the v8. It is the V8 with 2 xtra cylinders..Just get the correct plugs and don't let anyone tell you different.
