For 1999 and later performance improvements heads. Can also be used in 1998 and earlier heads with retainer to guide clearance modifications and Comp Cams valve springs.
When we did the PI cam/intake swap on my friend's 96 Mustang GT we kept his original valve springs. I am not sure how much different the truck valve springs are but I would think you wouldn't have a problem.
What is the part number for a PI manifold for f-150 I need a straight answer from someone that has done this swap. I'm tired of paying re-stock fees to Ford dealers that cant figure out what Im looking for.
I must have misunderstood the thread. I just read that the cams are the same except for the cam gear. Why would anyone swap them if they are the same.
The camshafts are different specs-the PI cams being much improved over the NPI pieces, and is where the majority of the power gain comes from-very little gain is from the cylinder head.

gotcha. I have been considering this swap on my '97. I will be pulling the drivetrain at some point in the near future and going through it. I get a suspicious "rattle" at start up and have thought it was a chain issue. I now have 220k miles and its time. I don't burn any oil, and no smoke, but I have considered resealing the motor and doing the PI swap. Would it pose problems on an original bottom end? I could perceive bottom end issues if the top end is refreshed, but I understand the short-block to be pretty robust and I have taken really good care of this one I have(synthetic every 5k miles, Healthy tune up every 30k). I just want to reseal some pesky leaks and get to the bottom of the rattling issue before it lunches itself. Thoughts?

If you swap to PI heads on a NPI shortblock, you'll end up with an engine that has a compression ratio of approx 10.5:1. These truck engines are already terribly knock sensitive on 87 octane at 9:1 CR, so IMO-this is a bad idea unless you want to swap over to premium fuel. Swapping just the cams will yield you approx 15rwhp and 20 ft-lbs without a need to remove the heads, it's much less expensive, and is simpler.

That is great info JL. I think that echos what you have already stated here in this thread if only I were a little more attentive when reading. That really answers a lot about what I want to do. I will keep an eye on this thread and try not to make everybody repeat themselves. Thanks for your patients. Oh... and thanks for the great info.
