Any of you guys work with video conferencing? North Dakota has a large video conferencing network that we use quite often for classes, meetings, etc. I was just wondering if any of you guys work with video conferencing.
Yeah, I've used both video and telephone conferencing in my internships. I'm not a big fan of either, it's alot harder to pay attention, and it's just wierd talking to someone on a TV screen.
The company I work for is really big on saving the environment thing, as a way to encourage cutting down on fuel consumption, they installed special video conference rooms throughout the company. Although it takes getting used to, I like it because I don't have to drive an hour and a half to attend my department meetings.
There is another thing we use for training, that I can't remember the name of at the moment. But I stay at my desk, do a phone conference with the people involved, and then the person who is running the show sends you an invite via the network on our pc. You then accept the invite, and then your pc screen turns to what the hosts pc is doing. It's actually fun, because while you get the slow learners who need to hear and see the same thing over and over, blah..blah..blah, I can go to a different session on my pc and browse on the internet.
My company doesn't use video conferencing, but I wish they did sometimes. I work out of the head office, and when there is a meeting in the field office, it's a real pain to have to drive five hundred kilometers (310 miles) each way to attend a two hour meeting.
It's not so bad in the summer, but driving that far in the winter on icy roads in the dark isn't any fun.
