I'm looking for a 94-97 250/350 and was wondering if its possiable to convert a SRW truck into a DRW truck? If so, how much works needed? Thanks for the help.
If I read their website correctly, all I should need to do is add the spacers, and put 4 wheel/tires on the rear. Should I replace the bed w/ a dually bed or will the fender flares work? Anybody have a cost for the spacers? Thanks for the help.
The rear spacers, wheels, and flares are about all you need. Using the front spacers to run dually wheels up there is an option. You could still run a normal wheel up front if you want. Having all the wheels the same, just means you only need one type of spare tire. It's been a while since I bought spacers, but I think they ran about $350.00/pair for hubcentric spacers.
I can't speak with certainty about the model years you're talking about, but with the '99-'07 models the dually bed and SRW are the same. What they do for the dually is cut the wheel well openings larger (and it's not exactly a precision cut, it looks like someone with a Sawzall and the shakes did it), put in a couple of liners and then add the larger flares.
The only real concerns are that the spacers are bolt-on, so you'll now have twice as many lug nuts to keep an eye on. And the rear-end will be a lot wider so you may have to get used to it.
I'm not that familiar with the 94-97 trucks, but the 99 and up duallies have a stronger rear axle (Dana 80) than the SRW truck (Sterling 10.5). So if that also applies to your year, you may not get the payload increase you are looking for. Of course, just adding 2 extra tires in the rear will make a big difference in payload because what really limits SRW trucks is the fact that it's easy to overload the tires with heavy loads like slide-in campers.
