I just bought a 88 bronco that has a push button 4x4. but it is not engaging. it seems to be something electrical. where do I start? and is it possible to convert to manual?
I don't know about your electrical issue but, here is what I am learning the hard way. Went out 4X4'n climbing some pretty steep hills in my 96. got stuck 3/4 of the way up (not fun to go down backwards). Felt like front wasn't pulln' even though I was in 4L. Make a long story short got it jacked up and found auto hubs were not working. I then went and got some warn premiun manual locking hubs (Part# 20990 which will work for you also) and attempted to put them on myself (not a good idea). Couldn't get em on myself, so its being towed to 4 wheel Parts this morning to be done properly. A word of advise. If people selln' the 4X4 stuff you want to put on your truck, dont let em tell ya how easy it is. Make sure you have the tools for the job (special socket required: don't know what size you'll need for your year but, Im sure you will need one). I will post after the hubs are installed and I field test the hubs. supposed to be the best for Broncos. Hope this helps some.
I forgot to mention that I do hear a click from the glovebox area when I push the button, but nothing else. I was told it was electrical and have not attemted to look any futher yet. if it is the hubs how much is the conversion to manual
HOLY SMOKES!!! Hol nother wolrd when that 4X4 is workn!! I was climbn stuff in 2 wheel drive before that gave 4Xers some trouble. NOW, with 4X4 workin'. The Bronco was true to its name. WILD and UNSTOPABLE! Those Warn premium hubs worked as directed. The wheeln' I do I don't need lockers! Get manual lockin WARN PREMIUM LOCKING HUBS! They work. jm2. Sorry I couldnt help w/ the electrical issue.
Sorry, got excited. Cost me $150 for hubs and conversion kit and $50 for install. The part # I listed before will work for your year. The box has the conversion kit # on it. Good luck.
