Village,.

welcome to the forum...
guess you can tell the engine color around here is blue...

several said it before... build YOUR truck YOUR way... but you might have to take your engine questions somewhere else cause most of us are FORD guys... but bring all your other f-1 or f-100 questions, body...frame... etc here... there's lots and lots of good info here for the taking.

dig around with the search function and look in the tech/article section too.

like was said before... start up a gallery... we love pictures and if they have shiney stuff in them we get all giddy...

take care and enjoy our assylum... you've got a user name now...you're one of us... BWAH...HAAH...HAAAAAAA

later,
John

you don't have to be crazy to hang out here.... we'll train you !!!!!

I must agree with the last two statements, we are after all building Ford's and no one could tell the difference when you're cruising down the road, but for most of us, cruising will have to wait until thier able to cruise.

read this thread late, and I won't ditto what was said already, but running a 454 (exhaust clearances?) may need a beefier drivetrain, so maybe a custom frame entirely, would be the safest route. Of course money dictates nearly everything...which is why I'm running one of the engines I already have...no, I don't have a 454 or 460, lol. (still looking for a 430MEL). Good luck whatever you decide, and you're always welcome here.

Becaue those individuals are cheap & they all have the same olde boring "Plug & Play" mentality that the Majority of Modders have that do this kind of Brand-X Swap.
They don't wish to put what they Perceive to be as Extra effort into their project, even if it means Stripping the "Heart & Soul" out of the "Olde Girl" by installing some Brand-X replacement.

Well said Col...I don't care what anybody does with their own money or their own truck as long as I don't have to see it. I guess what I meant to say was that I don't understand why someone would want to lower the value of their classic ford truck by sticking some boring, generic motor in it. I personally love the old F series trucks, especially the flathead V8's, and nothing looks better than a dressed flattie in a ford truck (or car).

Couldn't Agree More.

Flatheads, Inliners & Y-blocks Ruled the Racing Scene for years, that's why there are so Many Performance Parts Still around for them for Sale.

You fella's are all correct in your assessment of stuffing a chebbie BB into my F-1. I have this warmed up BB that I wanted to put into something and my poor ole F-1 looked like the best candidate. But I think I will reconsider and just doll up the flattie and save the poor ole F-1 the torture of flying parts and meltdown! I'm just dying to get that BB into something so I can make the "pucker" tighten up!! I've got an idea, how about my John Deere garden tractor? village7

LOL

Don't let us talk you out of it. Sometimes you just gotto go for it! I put the 500ci Caddy in my F1 because I always wanted to stuff that big old torque monster into something. The BBC would make for a fun toy, just take some precuations to do it right. Box the frame, upgrade the brakes and the rest of the driveline and you should be good. I'm running stock suspension in my truck and I boxed the front half of the frame. I did upgrade to power disc brakes becaue as I've gotten older I've come to realize the importance of being able to stop.
When I'm driving my truck and I hammer on it I still get a pretty good deal of frame twist. Because of the straight axle this will jack with your steering a bit. No big deal, you just have to learn to compensate for it.

The important thing with your truck is this, Have fun with it!

Whatever you decide to do with that big block you will have fun with it. My lifelong attraction to the flathead came from my high school auto shop. We had a early flathead V8 and tore it down and built it back about a hundred times it seems. Of course I took 3 hours of auto shop a day for 3 years trying to avoid getting an education. I don't even know how to tune my 460, it has to go to a real mechanic now and then and that gets expensive. But, nothing feels as good as that raw power in the big block and when it is tuned right it is just a real adrenaline booster and every now and then I need that. Good luck with your project whichever way you decide to go and my ribbing is meant to be good natured but you know how some of us old timers feel about the ford trucks, especially the real old classics.

Hey Village,
Make sure to leave the Ford logo on the tailgate. At least those you leave behind will remember it was a Ford. Have fun, thats why I work on mine.
