oil sensor question

I was told that newer vehicles have a sensor that when oil levels reach a certain low point that it throws the check engine light. Is this true or no and if so any one know if a 2000 would have it.

I have a 99.5 PSD and it has a sensor thats called Icp (Injection Control Pressure) I wonder if thats what you are talking about? if so then the 2000's do have them. If it is what you are talking aobut then Yes it will throw a SES light when the High Pressure Oil going to the injectors is Low or High.

Hmm it might be. also if oil levels got low would oil pressure drop enough on the stock guage you could tell before the engine seized up?

The way I understand it is, before your oil gets so low to seize an engine your HPOP will run out and the engine will shut off, so actually you should not see engine damage. The injectors fire off of very high oil pressure supplied from the HPOP (high Pressure Oil Pump) It is very important to keep your oil level within 1 quart of the level on the dipstick and also keep good oil in the engine, I use Rotella 15w40. Old oil will loose its anti foaming additive and that will also effect your injector system. I'm sure someone else will chime in with a better description.

Where was the leak at and is your truck running fine after fixing it? You might want to check the level in the HPOP just to make sure it is full. What oil are you using in it and how many miles since last oil change? PSD's are veryyyyy oil sensitive

wl I did the HPX cross over and thats when the major leak started. I could not see a leak at either connection at all but i tightened every thing down a little more and the im still getting a few drops but nothing like it was so i dont know if that is oil dripping from the engine valley cause there is oil standing there. There is also some oil in the fuel filter housing area behind the hpop but not as much as the passenger side hpx line. So tommorow im going to tighten it a little better and power wash and see if there is any more leaking. I having been consuming a lot of oil lately but i hadnt had any noticable leaks till this. I just switched from Rotella 15-40 to the 5-40 synthetic and thats when oil consumption started so i wonder if that has anything to do with it.

if there is any small leak synthetic oil will find it for sure..synthetic oil seems to find a way out faster then 15-40 oil..
